World History by artist Walter Robinson is a reference to Duchamp’s Bicycle Wheel. Here, the wheel is composed of worn out soldiers’ boots, exposing the toes of different races. The shape of the boots together forms a swastika, an ancient symbol of dynamic power. The piece speaks of the cycles of history, the Buddhist wheel of dharma, and the endless repetition of the human struggle.
