“Promised Land” by artist Walter Robinson is a clever commentary on the founding and expansionist principles of the early United States. A compass decked out in a pilgrim’s hat and shoes demarcates parcels of land, but the pencil is upside down. In effect, it is obliterating the territories of the Native people already present and long established.
