Judy Chicago’s “Gunsmoke” is from her Early Feminist (1970-1974) period. “Gunsmoke” is a self portrait of Chicago with a gun thrust violently inside her mouth. It embraces the theme of violence against women that was a preoccupation of Chicago’s at the time she created it.
