Andris Zirnitis is an accomplished printmaker in Latvia. Creating mezzotints of the highest caliber, Zirnitis’ imagery conveys the powerful style of his Soviet Social Realist training, in contrast to his pre-Soviet imagery.

This print is of great historical importance due to its creation date of 1990, at the time Latvia transitioned from Soviet rule to independence. Artworks created during this transitional political time tell the truths of the social evolution of our civilization.
