Rex Ray was a German-born American artist, whose artistic career began in San Francisco when he attended San Francisco Art Institute. Ray created album covers for musicians such as David Bowie, U-2, Talking Heads, The Residents, et al. His uber-cool style made him one of the most sought after of Bay Area artists. Ray developed his own uniquely wondrous style, creating woodblock prints he collaged onto panel and canvas to create transformatively beautiful and exuberant paintings. Ray’s artworks have been the subject of multiple gallery and museum exhibitions, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, McNay Art Museum, Akron Art Museum, Monterey Museum of Modern Art, and The Denver Art Museum. His works are also held in the collection of the State of New Mexico Public Art Collection. Numerous books and films about Rex Ray’s work have been published.
