Karen Yank (b. 1961) was born and raised in Cedarburg, WI and was influenced at an early age by her father, Paul Yank. He was a renowned sculptor who ran the Ozaukee Art Center, a welding and printmaking studio, gallery space, and an educational art center. Yank spent much of her life learning sculptural techniques from her father, and many of his acclaimed peers such as Alexander Calder. Yank earned her BFA from University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her MFA from Rutgers University. After moving to New Mexico, Yank’s work continued to adapt and was greatly influenced by her friend Agnes Martin, and Martin’s philosophies.
